Glassworks Barcelona is a creative production studio. A place where craft and passion fill the air. Where fantasy worlds leap from the imagination. Where creativity runs wild and reality and fiction collide. Counting over 10 years of developing visual content, storytelling, immersive experiences, new technologies, mixing live action, CGI and visual effects. From directing to producing but above all playing the part,...

ESTOPA

A film fully directed and produced by Glassworks Barcelona.

Offering a glimpse into Estopa’s album, 'ESTOPÍA,' the music video kicks off their 25th anniversary with a journey into their distinctive creative universe. From the streets of Cornellá to the Seat Panda of 'La raja de tu falda' or the pig from the cover of 'Destrangis,' the Muñoz brothers share the screen with the most iconic elements of their musical career.

Directed by Albert Sala, Javier Verdugo and Carlos Navarro, with executive producer Olaia Casal, our team shaped the film’s analogue look by using advanced digital techniques. This involved 3D scanning, volumetric shooting, and the production and integration of VFX and 3D elements. These techniques, combined with scenes shot with Steadicam, drone-operated GoPro, and handheld camera, allowed Glassworks Barcelona to capture both the real and surreal aspects of the Estopa universe, bringing ESTOPÍA to life in a beautiful, crazy visual dichotomy.

NIKE

We’ve teamed up with Nike and Mox London to create a bold global campaign for the iconic Nike Mercurial football boots on their 25th anniversary. The campaign, featuring Kylian Mbappé and directed by Glassworks Director marks a significant milestone for us as an innovative creative studio.

Preceded by a teaser in which Mbappé releases a flock of football boots into the bustling city, the documentary-style campaign includes a main 30-second film that follows the flock as it soars through the sky, mimicking the whirling, ever-changing patterns of bird murmurations. This breathtaking CGI spectacle is the centrepiece of the film. As the soundscape blends hectic city noise, fluttering flying shoes and football sounds, the film gains the punch and immediacy of a documentary. Shot almost entirely on a domestic MiniDV except for the fully rendered CGI shots, the film's urban filming style captures the essence of the campaign; taking the slogan 'Fast in the Air' to the next level.

It marks a big step for Glassworks Barcelona as we expand our creative ambitions beyond our trademark VFX to include directing and producing.ing exceptional and unconventional live-action projects.

MAGNUM

Presenting Beyond Limits, the latest spectacular project from our Lab.
In collaboration with @igor_studio, our special projects team generated the impactful visuals that reacted in real-time to the emotions of @langlangpiano during his performance at the prestigious Liceu de Barcelona.

Displayed on a grand 7x7m screen, the five mesmerizing audiovisual pieces were designed to react dynamically to the piano's musical notes, with three of them also responding to movement. A fusion of music, technology, visual art and audience participation

TELEFONICA

Behind the scenes, our Barcelona team closely collaborated with director Juan Cabral from MJZ to bring his vision to life. From the invisible VFX to the colour grading and the sound design, every detail was meticulously crafted to achieve an impeccable aesthetic. Using 2D, 3D and particle effects with precision, our artists sculpted and unified the film, enticing viewers to enjoy a Magnum ice cream in the cold of winter.

SOCIETY OF THE SNOW

The team at Glassworks Barcelona is thrilled to have contributed to the VFX of this incredible film by J.A. Bayona, based on the tragic true story of the 1972 Andes plane crash. From a full CG shot of Marcelo's dreamlike moment after dying from an avalanche to many shots where adding the right mountains in the background among other invisible effects was the main task. An ad-hoc App was created in Unreal to recreate the exact coordinates of where the plane was and which valleys and mountains surrounded it so all artists involved could use to work on theirs shots.

Check out our latest fashion film, expertly directed by Glassworks' Albert Sala for clothing brand Maharishi.

Shot in London against a stark industrial landscape, the project takes an experimental approach by incorporating innovative technology into the filmmaking process. Our team, with the invaluable contribution of Head of Technology, Xavi Tribo, crafted the stunning visuals by seamlessly combining NeRf technology and Unreal Engine with live action.

MAHARISHI

OUR LAB

‘Xavi’s Lab,’ based from the company’s Barcelona facility, was set up in 2011 and is a fully committed Special Projects division, taking on projects that fall outside the traditional post-production and digital services.

Under the baton of Xavi Tribó, we offer assistance, supervision and development of solutions that fulfill our clients' most ambitious visions. Projection mappings, interactivity, holograms or stereography are words that we use on a daily basis. The division uses cutting edge digitally-led technology to create fun and clever physical devices. These can then be used to provide technical solutions or simply provide high tech fun and interactive entertainment.

‘Xavi’s lab’ uses Xavi’s vast experience and core foundation from the advertising world to create pieces that can fill technical necessities for shoots, installations for experiential platforms, or simply provide inspiration and fun for overworked creative brains.

AUDI 'E-TRON ROOM: THE FUTURE PARADOX'

Xavi's Lab presented Audi's futuristic technology to the public through the world's most advanced hyper-reality experience, the 'e-tron room: the Future Paradox’. In this experience participants traveled through time, going through different challenges until they reach their final destination: the future.

To overcome the challenges, the participants were equipped with the latest technology, such as motion sensors and the VivePro virtual reality headset, which allowed the players' activity and the positions of different objects in the room to be transposed into the virtual world. The system has 36 cameras and 28 sensors in total. The algorithm created let recreates user physical pose to virtual avatar poses to allow a perfect confusion between reality and the virtual world of Audi’s Ambitious Mixed-Reality Game which pushed the limits of Branded VR.

LA PEDRERA 'MAGICAL VISION'

From concept design and script to software, coding and visual development – we delivered an entire Mixed Reality experience for La Pedrera, the iconic building by Antoni Gaudí.

Wearing the Microsoft HoloLens 2 glasses, the visitor can explore a previously closed-off floor of the magnificent 1910s building. The nonintrusive technology seamlessly integrates holograms with the actual physical space, ensuring that the monumental architecture remains the centre of attention. Additional features, such as the 3D audio developed in close collaboration with OIDO, tie the experience to the space even more, increasing interaction and turning the visitors into more than simple spectators.

Finding the right balance between the expressive storytelling and the Mixed Reality technology was essential for creating a unique connection between visitors and building. Some of the elements featured in this permanent exhibition include a holographic window showing the historical context, sound seemingly coming out from an old radio, and the animals that inspired Gaudi fluttering around the space.

FUNDACIÓ LA CAIXA 'SYMPHONY'

Symphony is an immersive audiovisual experience that takes spectators on a journey through emotions and music. Guided by the great conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the prestigious Mahler Chamber Orchestra, spectators can experience and understand music as never before.

The project widens the access to classical music through a unique combination of creativity and technology. 360° headsets coupled with 3D sound transport the spectators to the heart of music, entering the interior of an instrument or joining the musicians in the orchestra.

At Glassworks, we created and directed the computer graphics and visual effects, bringing the magic of classical music closer to all audiences.

GENERALITAT DE CATALUNYA 'LA FONERIA XR'

We had the incredible privilege of creating an immersive experience to present Catalunya’s upcoming Centre for Digital Culture, La Foneria, in Barcelona.

This Mixed Reality adventure offers a sneak peek into the building’s future, allowing users to visualise its spaces, enjoy a sample of digital art, and experiment with visual algorithms. As they step into the heart of the former canon foundry wearing the Meta Quest Pro glasses, users can touch, learn, and play with art and technology through interactive experiences.

To promote the project, we also crafted a short presentation video using NeRF algorithms to scan the building's interior and bringing it to life with Unreal's real-time video game technology. The film captures the very essence of La Foneria—a promotional piece that is disruptive in its own right, mirroring the innovation of the upcoming project.

GREENPEACE 'THEIR FUTURE IS OUR FUTURE'

In 2017, Greenpeace set itself a challenge: to gather signatures for a comprehensive action plan to protect bees and promote organic farming. Their goal was to collect 250,000 human signatures, paired with 250,000 bee signatures.

We developed an innovative software to track bees in real time and programmed a robotic arm to paint their movements. These movements were understood as the signatures of the bees.

During the shoot, the robot and the real time tracking system were placed in between the hives. Our in-house tracking software converted the bees’ route points into vectorized paths, forming the beautiful digital bee signatures. An algorithm selected the best-looking signatures, which were then drawn by the UR10 robot arm using Japanese blending.

SÓNAR & AJUNTAMENT DE BARCELONA 'ANALEMA'

‘Analema’, an interactive audiovisual installation developed by our Lab and curated by Sónar, illuminated Barcelona’s sky throughout the holiday season.

Positioned in Plaça Universitat as part of the Barcelona Christmas Festival, the 6m-diameter cylindrical LED screen captures citizens' movements during the day, transforming them into a unique choreography of vertical light at night. Enriched by a generative sound system reacting to users' positions, the installation echoes the sonic space crafted by musical duo Tarta Relena.

'Analema' invited all citizens to explore diverse visual and sound spectrums based on their position and the time of day, celebrating the winter solstice through an experiment controlled by generative algorithms.
